Witnessing a Piece of History...

The students came into class this morning asking about the inauguration. They were fascinated by the entire process. I let the students who had completed their reports watch some of the highlights before the swearing in ceremony. They thought it was really cool that Pres. Obama chose to lay his hand on the Lincoln Bible during the swearing in. Quentin really enjoyed this part because Pres. Lincoln is his favorite president. It was so amazing seeing the excitement and joy on their faces because they were watching history take place. The students' fascination with wanting to learn more about these important issues in our lives really impresses me. All of the students were given the choice to watch during the actual swearing in ceremonies. I was very proud of them. I feel so blessed to be able to have such wonderfully bright students in my class.

Report Writing

This week the students started their reports on animals. The students chose the animal that they wanted to learn more about. They researched their animal and the pictures below show them writing their report on poster board. I will post each student's picture as they complete their report. They have really enjoyed working on their reports.

Homework Heroes and AR Party....

The top two pictures are of Homework Heroes. We had some who weren't able to be in the first picture. So I decided to just post both pictures. Quentin and Carson M. would have been Homework Heroes as well but they were absent today. These students completed all of their homework the week of January 5 - 9. Today started a new week so stay tuned to see this week's heroes.

These pictures are of the students who were eligible to attend the Accelerated Reader Party for reaching their goal the second nine weeks.
I am having issues with selecting and deleting pictures so it is easier to just post both of them.

Dear Miss Russell's Class from President Bush...

In November we learned about letter writing. One of the people the students chose to write to was President George W. Bush. This week we received a response to our letters.

These next couple of pictures will show the letter up close and picture that he attatched.

I apologize for the rotation of this picture. I haven't quite figured out the new camera. I am not quite sure how to get it turned around.

Tristan was sick the day of our Christmas party. He was not able to be part of our class picture with the hog noses. I felt he deserved his chance to have his picture made with his hog nose.

Happy New Year !.........

Christmas catch up...

The picture above was from our Polar Express day. We had a really great time with our Polar Express activities. The students behaved very well. I was very proud of them.

This was our cake for the Christmas party. It was really good and the students seemed to enjoy it. Thank you Mrs. Wendy J. for picking up the cake.

This picture shows the students wearing the hog noses. They received these for exceptional behavior the last week of school before Christmas break. I am very happy to say that all of the students received the hog noses.

These next few pictures are random pictures from the party. We had a wonderful time! Thank you for all of your help and support with the party.

Thank you Kessler for helping with the party.

I have some really great news about the blog. I now have a computer and I will be able to update the blog more frequently. I will catch up on the Student of the Week showcases in the next couple of weeks.
